Bot Messaging Guidelines
Ecosystem
Telegram provides an API enabling third-party developers to craft bots. These bots function as specialized Telegram users, allowing interactions from your chat list, inclusion in groups, or utilization of an "inline" interface for specific features. Engaging in these actions involves sharing data with the respective third-party bot developers.
Data Reception by Bots
Interaction with bot developers can result in the transmission of data through various means:
- Sending messages directly to a bot.
- Utilizing an inline bot.
- Participating in a group where a bot is present.
- Engaging with buttons in messages sent by a bot.
- Completing transactions for goods and services via bots (refer to section 7 below).
Types of Data Bots Receive
In any of the aforementioned scenarios, automated user (bot) developers can access your public account data (refer to section 3.1): including your screen name, username, and profile picture(s).
Bots may also acquire additional data during interactions:
- Messages sent to the bot by the user.
- Potential access to your IP address if you click on links or buttons provided by the bot, provided the bot controls the linked website.
- Awareness of your group membership if the bot is part of the same group.
- Transformation of your message into a query for inline bots when starting a message with the bot's username (e.g., @gif). A warning is provided during the first use of an inline bot.
Bots added to groups operate in two modes: with or without access to group messages. If granted access, a bot can observe all activities within the group, with the interface indicating access status.
Independence of Bots from Telegram
Apart from Telegram's own bots, no affiliation exists between Telegram and other third-party bot developers. These developers operate independently, requiring your explicit permission before accessing or using your data.
